Many have probably noticed that, lately, this blog had mostly focused its attention on economic and social issues, on design in the highest sense of the term.
My renewed attention to these kind of issues pushed me to go more in deep in meanig and, that’s probably the reason why, I dedicated the last couple of months to establish an Italian think tank, based in Rome, involved in open innovation and open culture.

I believe in that, even though I’m very conscious of the difficulties and I have summarized the state of things just few days before the second face to face meeting in this post on our official blog.
Our idea is not really defined yet, but revolves around these three levels:
- Dissemination: for society as a whole, by means of a blogzine (the place where we’ll actually develop the research and part of the discussion)
- Demonstration / incubation: holding open events such as co-creation worskshops or opendata playgrounds, or simple educational talks. By networking and supporting projects by giving them visibility and significant contributions.
- Lobbying: to match the action from the bottom up, which we believe is the only way to change things, with initiatives that seek to reach decision makers and facilitate change.
The idea is to experiment with new ways of creating networks and ecosystems made up of individuals, movements, social enterprises and businesses in general that not (only) think about profit: bringing all together aroud a common ground of sustainability, cooperation and interest in a form of innovation that is based on open culture and the commons.
Is a quite challenging task, but it’s worth trying to do our part as professionals, researchers and ordinary people.

Dove sono stato
Da qualche giorno non sono così attivo come negli ultimi tempi sul blog e un motivo, effettivamente, c’è.
Molti avranno forse notato che, ultimamente, questo blog aveva focalizzato la sua attenzione su tematiche più economiche e sociali, di design nel senso più alto del termine. La mia rinnovata attenzione a temi come questi mi ha spinto ad approfondire e, forse proprio per tutto l’approfondimento fatto, ho dedicato l’ultimo mese a fondare un think tank partecipato sull’innovazione e la cultura aperta in italia.
Potete dare un’occhiata a www.hopen.it e, se sapete parlare italiano, aderire e contribuire al nostro wiki e al nostro gruppo Facebook che viaggia verso le 150 adesioni.
Io ci credo molto, anche se sono cosciente delle difficoltà, e ho riassunto lo stato delle cose, a pochi giorni dal secondo face to face meeting, in questo post sul nostro blog ufficiale.
La nostra idea non è ancora definita ma ruota attorno a questi tre livelli:
- Dissemination: per la società nella sua totalità, per mezzo di un blogzine (il luogo in cui ci in realtà svilupperemo la ricerca e parte della discussione)
- Dimostrazione / incubazione: tenendo eventi aperti come ad esempio co-creation worskshops, o playground dimostrativi sull’opendata, o semplici talks didattici. Unendo in rete e sostenendo progetti significativi dando loro visibilità e contributi.
- Attività di lobbying: per accoppiare all’azione dal basso verso l’alto che riteniamo l’unica via di cambiare le cose, anche iniziative che cercano di raggiungere i decisori e di facilitare il cambiamento.
L’idea è di sperimentare nuovi modi di creare reti e ecosistemi fatti di singole persone, di movimenti, di imprese sociali e in generale imprese che non pensino solo ai profitti: riunendo tutti intorno a un terreno comune fatto di sostenibilità, cooperazione e sistemi paritari, di l’interesse per la cultura aperta e per i beni comuni.
Un compito abbastanza impegnativo, ma vale la pena provare a fare la nostra parte come professionisti, ricercatori e gente comune.
